🇧🇷 Song for today: Vira-Vira — Mamonas Assassinas 🇧🇷

"Hmm, the weather is indeed nice today!" — "Hold my beer"

Kansas weather is a lot. Let me take you through the last 24 hours' meteorology.

Clear blue skies? Sure. (Yes, that is just how flat all of it is around here)

Regular cloudy? You got it. (That's one of the Santa Fe trail historical markers; we've been following it for a couple days now)

Low clouds/morning fog? Why, naturally.

Lightning storms? Duh.

Hailstorms? I mean, sometimes lightning is just too basic.

Bumpy, hivey mesh of clouds? I guess?

Plague of locusts??? Not quite there yet hopefully. (It was just the one, I'm afraid)

Miscellaneous quick slants

  • Grain elevators are just massive; you can usually see them from 10+ miles away in these flatlands

  • Food is decently cheaper out here; found a cool Thai place in Garden City!

  • Although the sunflower is Kansas' state flower, the ones we found on the side of the road are quite small and remarkably bad at following the sun

  • The Arkansas river is quite low and muddy right now (yes, it is just that)

  • Kansas' native prairies are more interesting to look at than the corn crops on the roadside (albeit just mildly, don't get too excited — there's still nothing to see)
