Eureka, KS->Wichita, KS

59.92 miles, 1194 ft elevation gain

Riding into Wichita was like riding into where my parents live in Dallas, only 6 hours more north. But, riding into Wichita was so much more exciting for a couple of other reasons. It's the largest city that we've been in for a while, and as someone who grew up in cities her entire life, it was nice to be somewhere with a higher population density. I do love being in the countryside, and I feel incredibly lucky to be able to bike across the country to experience the diversity of American landscapes and culture through smaller towns, it's nice to be somewhere with Trader Joe's, Costcos, and boba!

Secondly, Wichita is home to one of my friends from MIT - Isabella! The whole team was lucky enough to stay with her and her family and join in on their July 4th festivities. It was so nice to see her and catch up with her, especially since originally I thought she'd be in New York since she's interning there this summer - as luck would have it, she ended up being at home this week and I'm so glad that we got to meet up. Isabella's family and family are comprised of a couple of master chefs, and they really spoiled us with a delicious spread consisting of guacamole, corn ribs, buffalo cauliflower wings, cabbage and corn dip, steak, and last but not least, tres leches cake, made by Isabella herself.

After dinner, we lounged by the pool, and some of us participated in some friendly competitions - breath-holding and swim races. Audrey, a former swim team captain, was the referee. To end the day, it was July 4th, so of course, the day closed out with some classic fireworks. Hope you all had a great 4th!
