Day 15: Andrew's Cooking Was Too Lit

Lebanon, KY -> Mammoth Cave, KY

Biking- N/A

The day prior (Sunday, June 18th), I was the driver of the support van and so it was my job to make dinner. I love to cook, so I was excited to make us a hot meal. We stayed at the Hilton Hotel, but their kitchen was only equipped with an industrial oven. As a result, we brought in our camping stove to cook. In the beginning, I was feeling like a chef, sautéeing mushrooms and asparagus. However, this caused a lot of smoke to rise, and the kitchen was NOT ventilated at all. Within 10 minutes of me cooking, I may or may not have accidently set off the fire alarm for the entire hotel (whoops). Fortunately, the receptionist was able to quickly turn off the alarm and still allowed us to cook. Although they didn't have a ventilation system, they got us a portable fan to help dissipate the smoke.

Going back to cooking, this was the dinner I prepared. For the side dishes, I made sautéed asparagus seasoned with salt/pepper cooked in sesame oil, sauté mushrooms drizzled with hoisin sauce, honey, and soy sauce, and sauté spinach. For the main dish, I used ramen packets (broke college student vibes), but made it fancy by stir frying it with Lao Gan Ma spicy chili oil, honey, a dash of hoisin sauce, and chopped garlic/onions. We the source of protein, we had bacon for the meat eaters and impossible burger for the vegetarians.

The day prior, we ran into this stop sign with some motivating grafiti! Sometimes, I feel that cycling is a mental sport, especially on the longer rides with lots of hills. Thus, having some words of encouragement definitely helps keep the pedals turning.

Although we originally planned to bike today (75 miles, 4,500 ft of elevation) the weather was not in our favor. Currently and for the next few days, rain and thunderstorms are being forecasted. In the interest of everyone's safety and comfort, we decided to use to opportunity to recover and not bike. Yaay, rest day!
