Updated: Jul 13, 2022

Roanoke to Draper 62.77 miles and 3,910 ft elevation gain

Hey everyone, this is Franklin here again. I know there's some crossword lovers out there. This blog is for you. If you've been keeping up with our blog posts, this should be a piece of cake!

Comment below if you were able to finish it!

So we started our day like every other one (we've really settled into a daily routine). Woke up at 7 AM, waved goodbye to our hosts Pete and Dustin left Roanoke, VA at 9 AM. We biked through the nice bike routes in Roanoke, it was a pleasant ride, except for that one part when a unleashed dog started chasing after us, with their owners running after them. Of course, the dog was no match for us on our fancy road bikes, but also the owner was no match for their dog.

The wind was extra strong today. It was difficult to hear much beyond the sound of the wind, so most of put on our headphones and rode. I instead listened to typical sounds of road biking. For example, there was the buzzing of electricty as we passed by powerlines, the quiet "clank" sounds of us changing gears, and the sound of vehicles passing us (most of them were trucks).

We stopped for lunch, which was a feast of tacos made by our fabulous chef Robert.

We got tired of biking next to trucks so after lunch we made sure to bike along route 76 (also known as the transamerican bike route).

At some point we had a feeling we were going the wrong direction (shown below).

Route 76 has some beautiful sections. One stop had a view of a picturesque landscape. To quote Sophia, "It looks straight out of a painting". This picture doesn't do it justice. You'll just have to bike across the country to see it for yourself.

We experiemented with playing telephone while biking and then arrived at our host's place in Draper, VA.

Curtis and Jennifer ran a winery and after dinner they took us to a local baseball game. On the way we ran into a 3D printer that printed houses! Maxwell was super excited and made us pull over just to get a couple pictures for his workshop where he teaches about 3D printing technology! Curtis and Jennifer also showed us their wine making process and helped us carb load with a delicious spaghetti dinner paired with some of their homemade wine. Overall, it was a good day.

The End.
