We had our first full rest day in Charlottesville, VA. We slept in late in our tents (still at Jonathan’s), and then headed out for a day of fun!
Our first stop was the University of Virginia, where we grabbed some lunch in the rain and threw a Frisbee around for a bit. We stopped by a wonderful bookstore and spent some time looking for some good reading material. I’m currently reading the first book of the Culture series (I’m a big sci-fi fan), but wanted to pick up an actual book since I’m doing most of my reading on my phone this summer. Most of us found some new books to read, and I ended up getting The Coming, by Joe Haldeman. One of his other books, The Forever War, is one of my all-time favorites so I’m excited to read another one of his stories.
Next we headed on over to Kung Fu Tea for some Boba. We expect there won’t be too many places to get Boba in the Midwest, and savored what might be our last Boba for quite some time. We played cards and Blokus while drinking our tea and taking shelter from the rain.
We wrapped up our night with a trip to the Alamo Drafthouse movie theater. We broke into groups to see Infinity War, Deadpool, and Upgrade. Some of us got dinner at the theater, while others enjoyed some sushi at a nearby Wegmans.
Today was successfully restful and fun. It was a nice chance to continue recovering from our initial week of cycling, and provided a welcome break before our first 60-mile day in a couple of days. We’re all excited to get back on the road and continue our journey westward toward Kentucky.
