Day 54: Home on the Range

Today was another amazing day in Utah, which I think is now one of my favorite states. We packed up our tents in Naples and started biking toward our host in Fruitland. Along the way, we found ourselves biking into another very strong headwind, but I think today was the day that we all just accepted this was how it was going to be for the rest of our trip. It seemed like as soon as we crossed the Rockies, the wind would start blowing at 10:00 a.m. every morning in the exact opposite direction we were trying to bike. We also started to realize that Stanford's Spokes team was probably getting some extra help from the wind that we were not getting. Nevertheless, it was still a fun bike ride, and a few of us even stopped at a lemonade stand after lunch.

When google maps alerted us that we had made it to our destination, we were a little confused because there didn't appear to be any houses around us, but we called our host, Edward, and he assured us that we were, in fact, in the right place. There was a narrow dirt road winding through the trees on the side of the road, so we biked up it and found ourselves at an old ranch house. Edward welcomed us into his home and served us some delicious punch that really hit the spot after a long ride. I think he was a little surprised how fast we devoured the stir fry he made us for dinner. Afterwards, we met Edward's horses, Red and Sheila. When I was trying to find pictures for this blog I realized that almost all of the pictures we took that day were of the horses, so here's a few of my favorites.

That night, Edward showed us around his property filled with a variety of finished and unifinished projects ranging from a lazy river to a portable cabin to a teepee to a Mustang convertible. Erin, Bill, and I even got to sleep in the teepee, which I think was a first for all of us. Evan and Caralyn took advantage of the clear skies and slept under the stars.

The next morning, Edward surprised us again with one of his hobbies when he pulled out a drone to take a group picture of us next to the teepee.
