Day 36: Kansas City Presents: Earl Grey Tea and Sriracha Ice Cream

By: Lisa Peng

Today is a rest day in Kansas City! I had a slow and luxurious start to the day with a delicious latte from our host Stephanie's fancy coffee machine. Breakfast consisted of various sandwiches and burritos made with a panini press (panini-pressing things is a game-changer, guys!)

We then got to sit down and watch the Russia vs. Spain world cup game! Watching a game decided by penalty kicks has to be the most stressful experience for a soccer fan, wow!

During lunchtime we met up with Delia’s dad who drove up from Texas to visit! We had some great barbeque.

After lunch, we decided to go see the Nelson-Atkins and Kemper art museums in Kansas City. As I’ve gotten older I’ve started really enjoying walking alone through exhibits, sitting down in front of paintings and reading the plaques that describe the art. One of my favorite things that I saw was this huge snowman-like structure made of foam, mango pits, and a bunch of random circuit components. It was really freaky and weird and I loved it.

I was very excited about our next stop, an art supply store! I love stationary and pens and journaling. I haven’t drawn anything legit since elementary school, but I love the feeling of putting pen to paper at the end of a long day and recording the events as well as my thoughts. So much is happening on this trip every day that I want to write everything down so I don’t forget. (I have the memory of a squirrel, sadly) Admittedly, all I really need for that is a nice black pen and one journal, but I like embellishing my entries with some poor attempt at calligraphy so I got two brush pens. For any other stationary-junkies out there who are curious, I got a dual-ended Tombow fudenosuke brush pen and a Tombow Dual Brush Pen in 312- a very pretty green.

Annie wanted to introduce us to some proper tex-mex food, so for dinner we went to Chuy’s! I powered through some spicy but very good enchiladas. I snatched too many free postcards at the front desk, as well.

After dinner, we somehow wandered into a CVS (I don’t know why either, don’t ask) where Kate had too much fun galavanting around with a back scratcher.

We met up with Delia’s dad again for some ice cream at a store with very experimental flavors (Anyone down for Earl Grey Tea and Siracha? That’s all in one flavor, by the way.) I had some Rum and Golden Raisin. Fun fact for those of you who don’t know: I’m lactose intolerant. I’m also the worst lactose intolerant person you will ever meet because I absolutely love ice cream and cheesecake, pizza, froyo, you name it.

P.S. circus peanuts are disgusting.
