Anyways, today we finally did it! Kate, Matt, Lisa, and I biked our first century–what real-life cyclists call a ride of over 100 miles. We went 100.01 miles and called it a day because we are dedicated and brave.
The day started pretty early, at 5:45 am. I decided to wake the team up by yelling “it's time to go everybody get up if I'm up everybody has to be up.” This method received a lukewarm reception. We then had coffee and waffles with fruit provided by our lovely hosts and set off.
In case you weren't aware, Missouri is in the middle of a record heat wave. This meant that it was going to be over 95, which is Hot as Heck, so Matt, Kate, and I decided to knock out as much as we could in the morning. We stopped at a cafe on the way, and I had fried pickles and a Dr. Pepper–my traditional lunch snack. We were then joined by Lisa, and we continued on the MKT Trail until it rather abruptly decided to not be a trail any more.
By the end of the day, the miles had started to blur together, but we pushed through despite the heat, turning a 95.4 mile ride into a 100 mile one. Afterwards, we relaxed in the home of Barbara and David Curtiss. They told us incredible stories about cycling and hiking and gave us a bunch of tips.
I went to bed early. I was very tired.
