I often think of our days in terms of numbers - how many feet is this hill, how many miles left before lunch, how many calories am I burning (and hence, how many pickle chips is it acceptable to consume right now), how much water should I be replacing to offset this sweat?
Today I am too tired for a proper blog post, so here is today in numbers:
Biked: - 85 miles (61 on the lovely Katy Trail)
Consumed:
- 1 (incredibly delicious) bowl of blueberry oatmeal
- 1 bottle of orange juice
- 2 clif bars
- 1 pita filled with Fritos, spicy bean dip, some fancy cheese Delia bought, and a pickle half (this turned out to be a very pickle-y sandwich)
- too many more Fritos and spicy bean dip
- an unquantifiable amount of strawberries/blueberries/pineapple/kiwi/cantaloupe
- 1 accidental piece of sneaky honeydew that was lurking in the above fruit salad
- 1 small container of applesauce
- 1 less small container of pudding
- 1 cod sandwich which may or may not have resulted in food poisoning
- a lot of curly fries- 1 can of Dr. Pepper (this has become a staple food group for some members of the team, so I figured I'd try it out. 9/10 when there aren't 20 miles left to bike, 6/10 when there are. Not bad, would drink again with marginal regrets.)
- 1 onion ring (thanks Lisa)
- 1 heaping bowl of spaghetti and pesto, perfectly salted (thanks Matt) (sorry Delia)
- half of a burnt cookie (also thanks Matt)
- probably like 5 liters of water which, honestly, still wasn't enough
Saw:
- a bazillion lily pads in a beautiful park along a connector trail before the Katy trail
- 3 raccoons doing something mischievous on the side of the trail, which I swerved to avoid
- literally like 6 deer running across the trail in the 10 minutes before we turned off of it
- 1 lovely almost-sunset crossing the Missouri River before entering Hermann, pictured in less-than-all-its-glory below.
The days are getting longer and I am getting sleepier. I am sleepy right now. Goodnight and thanks for continuing to follow along!
