Day 2: A game of Van-loading Tetris

Updated: May 30, 2019

Second blog post coming in, this time from Caralyn! Fast facts about me: singer, mechanical engineer, professional amateur, and cheese enthusiast. Follower of rules that make sense, and an avid finder of joy and humor in the small things. Also very tired right now :D

Today was a looong day of shopping, mounting hardware on the bikes (lights, water bottle holders, new comfy seats), and organizing all of our possessions, with mounting fear that they wouldn’t all fit in the van. Spoiler alert... they did!

Maile, Erin, and I contemplate existence while sorting gear

We heaved a collective sigh of relief as we loaded the last of our supplies in the (quite full) van and closed the back, ready for tomorrow’s actual first day of the journey. Back to today though: outside of the organizational tasks that we conquered, there were some other great group bonding moments too.

An unexpectedly muddy ride through a nearby park ended in some beautiful views over Burke Lake. We managed a pretty convincing faked candid shot in a picturesque spot - our initial candid fakery turned quickly into real laughter. Plus the first of many epic bike photos!

After eating a second delicious meal by Erin’s parents, (shoutout to Robert and Cheryl!), we started our celebrations early with a cake for Maile, Erin, and Bill, who all have birthdays next week. We’ll be eating a lot of cake, and burning a lot of calories!

And now, gotta go to bed! Signing off, talk to you soon <3
